Allison O'Malley's plan is to go to grad school so she can get a good job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She has carefully closed herself off from everything else, including a relationship with Ethan, who she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.
What is definitely not part of the plan is the return of her long-lost father, who claims he can bring Allison's mother back from the dark place her mind has gone. Allison doesn't trust her father, so why would she believe his stories about a long forgotten Irish people, the Tuatha de Danaan? But truths have a way of revealing themselves. Secrets will eventually surface. And Allison must learn to set aside her plan and work with her father if there is even a small chance it could restore her mother's sanity.

Urban Fantasy? Check. Fairies? Check. Romance? Check. Three of my favorite things ever? Check, check, and check. When I first read the summary for this New Adult Paranormal I was excited to read it, and I am very glad that I was given the opportunity to participate in the blog tour. This was a wonderful story chock full of awesomeness!
I really enjoyed Allison's character. She mostly keeps to herself and enjoys quiet and calm, but as the story goes on we watch Allison grow and change from who she was in the beginning. Between her relationships with her mother, who suffers from episodes of schizophrenia, a cousin who is pretty much her opposite socially, Ethan - the boy she's been seriously crushing on, and then her father - who's been absent her entire life and whom appears out of nowhere to tell her all about the Tuatha de Danaan, and how her and her mother are now in some serious amounts of danger.
The building of the relationship between Allison and Ethan was cute and sweet. I enjoyed how they started out as friends and it turned fun and flirty. There wasn't any insta-love that I'm so not fond of, so that was a breath of fresh air.
The dreams that Allison has are very real and a nice way to add intrigue to the story. My interest in the book really reached its peak when Tuatha de Danaan and Liam's world take a bigger part in her life, and intertwine us into the action and suspense part of the book beautifully.
I love to learn how other's interpret mythology and how they craft tales of the fae to their own thoughts and ideals. Reading about Howard's Tua de Danaan and Tir na n'Og as well as how she interprets the fae was interesting. She has woven a wonderful tale of intrigue and I was captivated by the world she's created. Howard gives a fresh, unique spin on the enchanting world of the Fae, one I was happy to get lost in. I was able to really picture Tir na n'Og in my mind, as Howard creates such an easily imagined world with such realistic imagery.
Howard's writing style is easy to read and while at times the pacing was a bit slow, I was engaged in the story the entire time, finishing the book in one sitting. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and the cliffhanger at the end. I cannot wait to see how the story continues, and what's next for Allison.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.
