SAVE THE DATE {24} The Ghost in the Glass House

THE GHOST IN THE GLASS HOUSE
AUTHOR: Carey Wallace
EXPECTED PUBLICATION: September 3rd 2013 by Clarion

EDITION: Hardcover, 240 pages
CATEGORIES: Young Adult, Paranormal, Ghosts, Urban Fantasy, Historical, Romance, Clarion Books, Carey Wallace, The Ghost in the Glass House, Save the Date

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: In a 1920s seaside town, Clare discovers a mysterious glass house in the backyard of her new summer home. There she falls in love with Jack, the ghost of a boy who can’t remember who he was before he died. Their romance is a haven for her from the cruel pranks of her society friends, especially her best friend, Bridget, who can’t wait to grow up and embark on romances of her own. As Clare begins to suspect an affair between her mother and Bridget's father, she retreats to the glass house. But that haven begins to crack when she realizes that Jack has lied to her about his name . . . From a dazzling and fearless new voice comes a shimmering story full of wonder and mystery, in a world where every character is haunted by lingering ghosts of love.
MY THOUGHTS: 1920s? Say no more, I'm already "Wanting to Read" it. I adore anything and everything to do with the Roaring '20s. I don't know why, or where this obsession started but I may or may not have imagined myself attending one of Jay Gatsby's famous parties dressed up in Flapper apparel. How cool would that be?! That being said, this tale adds ghosts and romance into the mix,  there's no way that I can say no!

Do you think you'll read this one? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Reading!

SAVE THE DATE {21} All Our Pretty Songs by Sarah McCarry

ALL OUR PRETTY SONGS
SERIES: Book#1
AUTHOR: Sarah McCarry
EXPECTED PUBLICATION: July 30th 2013 by St. Martin's Griffin
EDITION: Paperback, 240 pages
CATEGORIES: Young Adult, Fantasy, Mythology, Paranormal, Romance, Urban Fantasy, Music, Sci-Fi
ADD TO GOODREADS

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The first book in an exciting YA trilogy, this is the story of two best friends on the verge of a terrifying divide when they begin to encounter a cast of strange and mythical characters.

Set against the lush, magical backdrop of the Pacific Northwest, two inseparable best friends who have grown up like sisters—the charismatic, mercurial, and beautiful Aurora and the devoted, soulful, watchful narrator—find their bond challenged for the first time ever when a mysterious and gifted musician named Jack comes between them. Suddenly, each girl must decide what matters most: friendship, or love. What both girls don’t know is that the stakes are even higher than either of them could have imagined. They’re not the only ones who have noticed Jack’s gift; his music has awakened an ancient evil—and a world both above and below which may not be mythical at all. The real and the mystical; the romantic and the heartbreaking all begin to swirl together, carrying the two on journey that is both enthralling and terrifying.

And it’s up to the narrator to protect the people she loves—if she can.

MY THOUGHT: I like how different this one sounds from most of what it on the market today. Of course, that is being said from the vague description given above - but I can't think of what I'd compare it to offhand. I like that they give the 2 main characters as Aurora (which that is one of my favorite names!) and "Narrator". That makes it seem spooky and mysterious, and pulled me in right away when I read this summary. I think Jack is going to be an awesome character too, from his description, and I think the cover is really pretty! This one sounds like it'll be a good read. What are your thoughts?

Save the Date {20} Of Beast & Beauty by Stacey Jay

Of Beast and Beauty
SERIES: Stand alone
AUTHOR: Stacey Jay
EXPECTED PUBLICATION: July 23rd 2013 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers
EDITION: Hardcover, 400 pages
CATEGORIES: Fantasy, Retelling, Young Adult, Fairy Tales, Beauty and the Beast, Sci-Fi, Dystopian, Paranormal

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: In the beginning was the darkness, and in the darkness was a girl, and in the girl was a secret...

In the domed city of Yuan, the blind Princess Isra, a Smooth Skin, is raised to be a human sacrifice whose death will ensure her city’s vitality. In the desert outside Yuan, Gem, a mutant beast, fights to save his people, the Monstrous, from starvation. Neither dreams that together, they could return balance to both their worlds.

Isra wants to help the city’s Banished people, second-class citizens despised for possessing Monstrous traits. But after she enlists the aid of her prisoner, Gem, who has been captured while trying to steal Yuan’s enchanted roses, she begins to care for him, and to question everything she has been brought up to believe.

As secrets are revealed and Isra’s sight, which vanished during her childhood, returned, Isra will have to choose between duty to her people and the beast she has come to love.

MY THOUGHTS: Some people love retellings, some people hate them. I think I fall somewhere in the middle. I've read good and I've read bad. What I love most, is just seeing how someone takes an idea and spins it their own way. How many times have you finished a book and thought that you would've ended it differently, or had the characters take different paths, make different choices, or put them in an entirely different world completely? That's what I love about retellings, and this one sounds like it is going to be so different not only from the original story, but from anything I've read. I'm very interested and curious about this one, and will be placing my request with the library as soon as I'm done writing this post! Plus, I think the cover is really awesome!

What are your thoughts?

Happy Reading!

Save the Date {19} Starglass by Phoebe North

STARGLASS
SERIES: Starglass #1 | OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES: Starbreak #2
AUTHOR: Phoebe North
EXPECTED PUBLICATION: July 23rd by Simon & Schuster for Young Readers
EDITION: Hardcover, 448 pages
CATEGORIES: Young Adult, Sci-Fi, Dystopian, Fantasy, Space, Romance, Apocalyptic/Post-Apocalyptic, Aliens, Simon & Schuster, Starglass Series, Phoebe North, Save the Date

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Terra has never known anything but life aboard the Asherah, a city-within-a-spaceship that left Earth five hundred years ago in search of refuge. At sixteen, working a job that doesn't interest her, and living with a grieving father who only notices her when he's yelling, Terra is sure that there has to be more to life than what she's got.

But when she inadvertently witnesses the captain's guard murdering an innocent man, Terra is suddenly thrust into the dark world beneath her ship's idyllic surface. As she's drawn into a secret rebellion determined to restore power to the people, Terra discovers that her choices may determine life or death for the people she cares most about. With mere months to go before landing on the long-promised planet, Terra has to make the decision of a lifetime--one that will determine the fate of her people.

MY THOUGHTS: I really love the cover on this book! I think it's really pretty and doesn't give anything away. I also like that it isn't using a live model. Sometimes I like to picture the main character how I imagine them from the descriptions in the book, and when a live model is used sometimes it doesn't fit what I imagined, but that really isn't here nor there! Once I really started loving dystopian books, it was only natural that I then progressed to books that take place in space (ha, that rhymed!) I really enjoyed Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan, and I have been meaning to finally dive into Across the Universe by Beth Revis. Being trapped on a ship in space with no way off kind of creeps me out, so of course I would enjoy books that take place on spaceships! Since it's a genre I'm still getting comfy with, this one sounds like it's got tons of action and suspense to keep me engaged, and I definitely want this one on my bookshelf!

Happy Reading!

Save the Date {18}

TITLE: Still Star-Crossed
SERIES: Stand-alone
AUTHOR: Melinda Taub
EDITION: Hardcover, 352 pages
PUBLICATION INFORMATION: July 9th 2013 by Delacorte Press
CATEGORIES: Young Adult, Retellings, Historical Fiction, Romance, Delacorte Press, Melissa Taub, Still Star-Crossed, July 2013 Release

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Romeo and Juliet are gone. Will love live on? Despite the glooming peace that's settled on Verona after the recent tragedy, Montagues and Capulets are brawling in the streets. Faced with more bloody battles, Prince Escalus concludes that the only way to truly marry the fortunes of these two families is to literally marry them together. Everyone is skeptical, but none more so than the pair selected, for the most eligible Montague bachelor is Benvolio, Romeo's best friend, still anguished by the loss of his companions, and the chosen Capulet maid is Juliet's older cousin Rosaline, the girl Romeo first loved and whose refusal of Romeo's affection paved the way for bloodshed. Contrary to their late cousins, there's no love lost between Benvolio and Rosaline, yet they forge a bond to end the renewed feud not only to escape their forced betrothal, but to save their lives and the city of Verona itself.

MY THOUGHTS: Holy... I.. Oh man. I want this book, like, now! I don't know what it is about Romeo & Juliet, but anything to do with a retelling or a spin-off type story and I am so there! I think this book has tons of promise, and it is one that I am going to most likely buy immediately. I also adore the cover, and that alone is enough to draw me in.

What do you think? Is this a TBR or Pass for you?

Happy Reading!

Save the Date {15} Dare You To

Dare You To

AUTHOR: Katie McGarry
SERIES: Pushing the Limits #2| OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES: Pushing the Limits #1
EDITION: Hardcover, 462 pages
EXPECTED PUBLICATION: May 28th 2013 by Harlequin Teen
CATEGORIES: Young Adult, Romance, Contemporary, Book #2 in Series, Pushing the Limits Series

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. "Dance with me, Beth."

"No." I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again....

"I dare you..."

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all....

MY THOUGHTS: I absolutely LOVED Pushing the Limits, so imagine my anticipated excitement when I learned that a companion novel was coming out! I will definitely be getting this one ASAP. If you love contemporary romances that don't fit the typical mold, you will adore McGarry's writing and characters. Each are fantastically wonderful and flawed all at the same time. She doesn't hold back with any topic or worry about giving the reader a heart attack with her story lines that you won't see coming. I recommend everyone read this book if you loved Pushing the Limits; and if you haven't experienced McGarry's writing yet, then you need to do so immediately so that you can see why I will read absolutely anything that she publishes.

Happy Reading!

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: (Highlight over to read; didn't want to spoil anything for those who haven't read books 1 & 2) The past few years have held more surprises than part-angel Clara Gardner could have ever anticipated. Yet from the dizzying highs of first love, to the agonizing low of losing someone close to her, the one thing she can no longer deny is that she was never meant to live a normal life.

Since discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods, Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that follows her ... even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving town seems like the best option, so she's headed back to California - and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that started her on this journey in the first place.

As Clara makes her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he's not the only one ... with the battle against the Black Wings looming, Clara knows she must finally fulfill her destiny. But it won't come without sacrifices and betrayal.

In the riveting finale of the Unearthly Series, Clara must decide her fate once and for all.

MY THOUGHTS: I enjoyed Unearthly, and REALLY like Hallowed, so I'm very curious to see how the series ends in the third installment of the trilogy.  There are still lots of unanswered questions and I can't wait to see how they play out!

WHAT THE BACK OF THE BOOK SAYS: Remy O'Malley heals people with touch - but ever injury she cures becomes her own. Living in a household with an abusive father, she has healed untold numbers of broken bones, burns, and bruises. And then one night her stepfather goes too far.

Being sent to live with her estranged father offers a clean start and she is eager to take it. Enter Asher Blackwell. Once a Protector of Healers, Asher sacrificed his senses to become immortal. Only by killing a Healer can a Protector recover their human senses. Falling in love is against the rules between these two enemies. Because Remy has the power to make Protectors human again, and when they find out, they'll be coming for her - if Asher doesn't kill her first.

This is book one in the Touched trilogy.

MY THOUGHTS: A pretty unique concept, and not one overburdening the YA market right now. I'm really curious to see how the relationship between Remy and Asher is going to play out -- sounds like it could get pretty messy!!

What are your thoughts?

What the Back of the Book Says: In a land where magic has been forgotten but peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest is simmering. Three kingdoms grapple for power - brutally transforming their subjects' lives in the process. A midst betrayals, bargains, and battles, four young people find their fates forever intertwined:

Jonas: Enraged at injustice, a rebel lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country impoverished - and finds himself the leader of a people's revolution centuries in the making.

Lucia: A girl adopted at birth into a royal family discovers the truth about her past - and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.

Magnus: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, a firstborn son begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword...

The only outcome that's certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

My Thoughts: Holy... Cow. Where do I even begin with all of this amazing awesomeness?! First off, the cover is just gorgeous! I absolutely love it, and it embodies what I would think a (high) fantasy novel should. And then the blurb - oh man, I want this book now! I don't want to wait until December 11th! I'm relatively new to the high fantasy genre, but this one just sounds incredible. I am very interested to see how Rhodes handles the world-building, because it sounds like it's going to be pretty crazy!

What are your thoughts? Will you be reading this one?

What the Back of the Book Says: Sixteen-year-old Rayna sees angels, and has the medication and weekly therapy sessions to prove it. Now, in remission, Rayna starts fresh at a new school, lands a new job, and desperately tries for normalcy. She ignores signs that she may be slipping into the world she has tried so hard to climb out of. But these days, it’s more than just hallucinations that keep Rayna up at night. Students are dying, and she may be the only one who can stop it. Can she keep her job, her sanity, and her friends from dying at the hands of angels she can't admit to seeing?

Psychiatry, fantasy and real life come together in A Shimmer of Angels, as a young girl struggles with identity, secrets, and confronting her greatest fears. A Shimmer of Angels is for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider, or perhaps has felt like giving up entirely. It touches on themes of suicide, ostracism and emotional pain. The author, personally exposed to suicide through the death of a beloved family member, will donate a percentage of sales of this novel to a suicide prevention and outreach program in San Francisco, California.

My Thoughts: I never get sick of Angel stories, and this one seems very different from the others I've read. It seems that it has a very personal touch from the author, and that it is going to deal with some pretty heavy content. Also, it looks like a percentage of sales from the novel is going to be donated to a suicide prevention and outreach program in San Francisco, CA. For that reason alone I would willingly dish out the cash for the book because I think it's important that we help out programs like this - even if it's not something we've personally needed/used or ever will because life can change in the blink of an eye. Therefore, I will not just read but I will also purchase this title!

Do you love Angel themed books? What's your favorite so far? Does A Shimmer of Angels seem like one you'll read? Why or why not?

Save The Date {7}

Reached
Author: Ally Condie
Series: Matched #3 |  Other Books in the Series: Matched, Crossed
Expected Publication: November 13th 2012

Why You Should 'Save the Date' For This Book: This is the third and final book in the Matched Trilogy and it's sad that Cassia's story is about to end because her journey grabbed me from the page one of Matched and I've been hanging on since then. Matched was the second dystopian YA novel that I'd read way back in 2010 when it released, so I credit it with building the foundation for my love of anything dystopian/futuristic/post-apocalyptic.

What The Series is About: Matched Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Crossed In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky — taken by the Society to his certain death — only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.

Cassia’s quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander — who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia’s heart — change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever.

Reached Cassia faces the ultimate choices in the long-anticipated conclusion to the "New York Times" bestselling Matched Trilogy.
After leaving Society and desperately searching for the Rising--and each other--Cassia and Ky have found what they were looking for, but at the cost of losing each other yet again: Cassia has been assigned to work for the Rising from within Society, while Ky has been stationed outside its borders. But nothing is as predicted, and all too soon the veil lifts and things shift once again.
In this gripping conclusion to the #1 "New York Times" bestselling Matched Trilogy, Cassia will reconcile the difficulties of challenging a life too confining, seeking a freedom she never dreamed possible, and honoring a love she cannot live without.

Release Date: August 7th 2012
Add To Goodreads

In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.

When Zoe starts to malfunction (or “glitch”), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret so dark it will mean certain deactivation if she is caught: her glitches have given her uncontrollable telekinetic powers.

As Zoe struggles to control her abilities and stay hidden, she meets other glitchers including Max, who can disguise his appearance, and Adrien, who has visions of the future. Both boys introduce Zoe to feelings that are entirely new. Together, this growing band of glitchers must find a way to free themselves from the controlling hands of the Community before they’re caught and deactivated, or worse.

In this action-packed debut, Glitch begins an exciting new young adult trilogy.

My Thoughts

This book is right up my ally! The first paragraph of the blurb reminds me of Under the Never Sky, but it seems the similarities end there. With promises of a dystopian world, action and romance, what more can you ask for?!

Happy Reading,
